I now have additional information about Tobe Carlisle who died in Cass County, Texas, between 1910 and 1920. He appears to be the same person as Edward Carlisle, the son of George Washington Carlisle and Elizabeth Henderson who died in Tallapoosa County, Alabama in the 1860s. They married February 5, 1833 in Jasper County, Georgia, and had the following children, all born in Jasper County:
Robert Kellum Carlisle b: 20 MAY 1832
Sinia Carlisle b: 1834
George Washington Carlisle b: 22 APR 1836
Mary Fanny Carlisle b: FEB 1838
Thomas K. J. Carlisle b: 1840
Edward Tobe Carlisle b: 1842
Nancy Jane Carlisle b: 28 NOV 1844
Edna Carlisle b: 1846
Edward "Tobe" Carlisle seesm to have been enumerated at least two times on the 1860 census of Tallapoosa (possibly three times). He married about 1861 was married either one or two times. He was married to Clora Frances Lake when the last child was born in 1878. Ifhe was married two times, his first wife was named Mary and his second was Clora Frances Lake. If he was married only once, all the children were by Clora Frances Lake.
Here are the children ofEdward "Tobe" Carlisle:
Thomas Edward Carlisle b: 7 JUN 1862
James Monroe Carlisle b: 31 JAN 1867
Joe L. Carlisle b: 1870
Mary A. Carlisle b: 1874
Stonewall Jackson Carlisle b: 14 AUG 1878
The first two children were born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama; the last three were born in Cass County, Texas. The death certificate of Thomas Edward Carlisle lists his father as Edward Carlisle (no mother given). The death certificate of James Monroe lists his father as Tobe Carlisle and his mother as "Mary." The death certificate of Stonewall Jackson lists his father as Tobe Carlisle and his mother as Clora Frances Lake. All four children are enumerated on the 1880 census of Cass County, Texas, living with their parents, Edward and Clora Carlisle.
James Monroe Carlisle apparently moved back to Tallapoosa County and married his first cousin, Mary Alice Carlisle. He is buried in he same cemetery in Alabama with her parents, though, oddly, his wife is buried elsewhere.
Any additional information would be welcome, especially concerning whether this family is related to the other Carlisles in Cass County, Texas.
