CARLISLE, ALLEN
My ancestor's sister, Catherine Haskell, married Richard H. CARLISLE in Pierrepont, New York in 1865.Richard was born 13 Sep 1838.They moved to Lewis County, NY shortly after their marriage, then went to Ottawa County, Michigan. They had three children:Winnie Adelaide Carlisle b. 1868 who married Frank Barnes Squier, Ada L. Carlisle b. 1870 who married Merrill Boody, and Algirnza "Gurnie" Carlisle b. 1873 who never married.
The 1880 census of Pierrepont, NY shows an Allen Carlysle (sic) age 37 living with wife Elsie and children Sarah, Mary, William, and Franklin.Allen's birthplace is listed as VT as is the birthplace of both his parents. What was Elsie's maiden name?Could she have been a younger sister to Catherine "Kate" Haskell Carlisle?
The 1880 census of Allendale, Ottawa County, MI shows Richard H. Carlile (sic) with wife Kate and children Winnie A., Ada L., and "Algernum" L..Richard's birthplace is listed as MA with both parents from VT.
The LDS International Genealogical Index (IGI) shows the same Richard Carlisle with the same birthdate except it lists his birthplace as Goshen, Addison County, VT, and gives his parents as Joseph and Polly Carlisle who married 14 Dec 1828 at Goshen.Polly Carlisle's maiden name may have been ALLEN.
Does anyone have any information about this family? Were Richard and Allen brothers? Was there perhaps another brother named Franklin?
Any help appreciated.
