Hi Benjamin,
I am trying to find the parentage of Hannah Gough Carling, b. Middlesex Cty, NJ in 1824 and died in Mercer Cty, NJ before 6/14/1876. She married John Voorhees Slack in September 1847 and James Hammell in Feb 1861. Her daughter, Emma Augusta Slack, is my g-grandmother. Hannah lived in Trenton, NJ most of her life and is buried in Mercer Cemetery in Trenton. But her limestone gravestone is now largely undecipherable. Please let me know if you can determine who her parents were in NJ.
Thank you,
Doug Heath, Wakefield, MA

Here is some other information:
1860 Census; Hannah Gough Carling Slack age 37 running a trimming shop in Trenton, NJ with daughter Emma age 4, Ann Carling age 72 (mother?) and sister Mary Fagan age 46

Married James Hammell, Carpenter, on 21 Feb 1861 after the death of John Slack on 28 August 1857. Living with him as Hannah Hammell in Trenton at age 46 and daughter Emma Slack, age 14, in 1870 Census. Kept trimming business. Had domestic servant Mary Richardson of Pennsylvania.

In 1859 City Directory, she owned a variety store at 219 Warren Street, Trenton, same as her home.

Will proved on 14 Jun 1876.
