Sherrel,
I am not sure if my Stewart line is related to Daniel Carlin . I know Daniel shows up about the same time my John Stewart/Stuart does in Henry CO VA 1778 Daniel Carlin was also an agent for John Stewart on his 1782 land grant and survey. I believe John Stewart took over that survey or bought it from Carlin. I am numerous deeds between the Carlin`s and John Stewart and other Stewart`s (his sons). We were also witnesses for some of their deeds and they were to ours. Something tells me we had a very close relationship. We served under in the the Militia as well. I have been forever trying to determine WHEN Daniel and Thomas Carlin came to the Colonies and from what port. Did they come in from VA or PA? Daniel Carin married Elizabeth Webb his brother Thomas married Sarah Evans. Sarah Evans was born in Halifax CO VA. For an man who migrated to VA abt 1777-1778, he sure seemed to have some money, most did not when they came. He did well for himself from day 1, had slaves lots of land, very unsual for man who had been in the USA for only a couple of years, then he becaame Sheriff of Patrick Co in 1791.
Not one of the Carlin researchers has been able to expalin when he came, they don`t know. Sherrel, most people who came from over the pond came with very little and waited years to be able to just get up the shillings to survey some land much less get grants and patents. PLUS both men intermarried with prominent families, it just doesn`t make sense to me.
