Here is another tidbit to support William Niler Carlile's migration from North Carolina to South Carolina. William Niler is in the 1800 Horry County South Carolina census (there is also a John Carlile in that same census - father, brother, cousin??). I read on the internet that Horry County is surrounded on three sides by water (ocean and rivers), and the only land "bridge" is with North Carolina. Because of this, most people who migrated to Horry County came from North Carolina (versus most of the rest of South Carolina which was populated in large part by people who came into Charleston. In fact, people of Horry County at that time did not really consider themselves as South Carolinians because they were isolated from the rest of South Carolina by the water boundries.

I did find a William and John Carlile in the 1790 Edgecombe County North Carolina census, but have not been able to put together evidence that they might be the same two Carlile's in the 1800 Horry County South Carolina census ....
