Jimmy,

I am sure somewhere these people do connect! Probably back in South Carolina. I have a James Carlisle, born 1803 in SC married to Elizabeth (?) They had 3 sons. We know at least one of these used the Carlile spelling - John William Carlile, born 1832 in AL; married 2 times and is buried in Prices Chapel Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas. The second wife of John William was Lydia Ann Gregg, whom he married in 1881, probably in TX Ludia Ann Gregg was the sister of Hiram John Gregg (my great grandfather).

Hiram John Gregg married La Vonia R. Carlisle in AL. La Vonia was the daughter of James Jefferson Carlisle and Eliza Merritt. James Jefferson and Eliza married in 1846 in Montgomery County, Alabama. They had at least 4 children: Elizabeth, Mary, James Washington and La Vonia. James Jefferson died after 1870 in Crenshaw Co AL. I have no information on Elizabeth or Mary.

James Washington Carlisle married Samantha Jane Gregg (sister of Hiram in ca 1867 probably in AL. 1900 Census records say they had seven children. One of their sons, Joseph Edward Carlile and his wife, Eula May Stovall Carlile are buried in Montgomery County, TX Their tombstones have the Carlile spelling. I met one of Joseph Edward's grandsons in July 2005 and he uses the CARLILE spelling.......

I sure hope we connect and can share.

Betty ... in Texas
