Mary, we are definately talking about the same branch of the Carleys.Your great grandfather, William Carley, b.07 May 1830 in NY, appears to be the brother of my Charles B.
Carley, b. 14 Jan 1836, NY.No proof of this, only the word of descendants and many coincidences in naming patterns, etc.The William Carley I was referring to in my original post was a son of my Charles B. Carley -- and he did have a brother Richard S.I have no information for Richard, father of William and Charles, but I do have some on their mother Eliza.
I do know that the first born of your William and Emily, b. abt. 1849 in PA was also named Richard S. Carley. He was listed in the 1850 census, but no further record of him has been found.there is a big gap between him and the next known (to me) child of theirs. That is Elizabeth
Carley, b. 08 Nov 1857 in MN, and that gap may have held the other children that you have heard about. I have 7 children b. in MN listed for them, your Lucy C. being the youngest.
I would be happy to exchange data on our two families. If you are interested you can contact me directly.
