Roger D. Joslyn reports research that documents the true maiden name of Widow Rebecca Josselyn/Joslin/Josylen who married on 6 or 16 May 1664 William Kerley of Lancaster, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; she was his third wife.

William Kerley, or Carley, senior, after the death of his wife in March 1658, married Bridget Rowlandson, widow of Joseph and mother of the minister, in May 1659. She died in 1662. It is supposed that he married Rebecca, widow of Thomas Joslin in 1664. His death occurred in 1670.

PLEASE NOTE ---- The William who married Hannah King is thought to be a nephew of William Sr. This would have been the William who came to America in 1638 with Edmund. This William is cited in "Ages from Court Records 1636 to 1700, Vol.I: Essex, Middlesex, and Suffolk Counties,Massachusetts"; Melinde Lutz Sanborn, Gen.Pub.Co., 2003

This would make his date of birth 1620 and corresponds to the dob for Hannah King which is said to have been in 1625. It also makes his date of birth compatible to that of Edmund who is noted to have been 22 years old in the records of the Confidence in 1638 who was probably his older brother and Edmund was therefore born in 1616. This William died in 1684 mentioning only his wife Hannah (King) and not any children.
William Kerley, Jr - was buried in Lexington in 1719 and lies along with his wife, Jane who died in 1721 and daughter Elizabeth, who also died in 1719. His Will lists only daughters with their married names when applicable, and one grandson who was NOT a Kerley/Carley

In Rebecca, Wife of Thomas1 Josselyn of Hingham and Lancaster, Massachusetts, author Roger Joslyn presents a 1613 deed from the Essex Record Office which is effectively a marriage settlement between Thomas1 Josselyn and Rebecca Jude. Despite substantial research, Rebecca’s parentage has not been determined, probably because she came from the parish of Radwinter, Essex, whose parish registers do not begin until 1638.

Rebecca was the wife of Thomas Josselyn who brought his family from London to Boston in 1635 aboard the ship Increase. Previous researchers had identified Thomas' wife as Rebecca Marlow/Marlowe.
Joslyn quotes a 1613 indenture deed (Deeds, D/DHt, T531, Essex Record, Chelmsford) which identifies Ralph Josselin Sr of Roxwell in County Essex, yeoman, as father of Thomas Josselin. The deed is made to John Jude of Radwinter in same county, yeoman, and to Ralph Josselin Junior of Roxwell, yeoman, for "...one parcel of arable and pasture land containing ten acres ..." and after the decease of Ralph Josselin Senior, "...then to use and behoof of Thomas Josselin one of the sons of me...and Rebecca Jude and the longer liver of them." After the deaths of Thomas and Rebecca the land would go to their heirs. Ralph Josellin Senior further stipulated this indenture to become nullified in the event that Thomas Josselin was paid the sum of 100 pounds within one year of his father's decease.
Joslyn notes that "...this deed was obviously prepared in expectation of Thomas and Rebecca's marriage..." but not as a direct marriage settlement as the property would revert to Ralph's heirs if Thomas had no children.
This article reports research for Rebecca Jude's parentage through other records was not successful and summarizes the documents studied.
Rebecca Jude born ca1592 (calculated from age 43 in 1635) in England, died (no record has been found) in Lancaster, Massachusetts; married William Kerley 6 or 16 May 1664 in Lancaster, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. William Kerley died 14 July 1670 Lancaster, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
