This William is now thought to be a son of Capt. Henry and his second wife, Elizabeth Ward, widow of John Howe, Jr. John was slain in Marlborough in the massacre there in 1676. Henry and Elizabeth Ward Howe were married in Marlborough and are known to have had 2 daughters, named in Henry's Will of 1713 - and are thought to have had at least 2 unregistered sons - one of which is this William.
