Ireland -> "Hypothesized" sept of McKenzie -> Carlos, Carles, Carliss, Corles...

SUBJ: Ireland -> "Hypothesized" sept of McKenzie -> Carlos, Carles, Carliss, Corles, Corlis, etc.

First, I am researching the following surname from Ireland (with variant spellings), trying to find out what clan Irish CARLOS' were/are associated with. The surname variations (among others) are:

CARLAS, CARELESS, CARLES, CARLESK, CARLIAS, CARLIS, CARLISE, CARLISH, CARLISHE, CARLIUS, CARLLES, CARLOIS, CARLOS, CARLOUSE, CARLUIS, CARLUS; CORLAS, CORLES, CORLIS, CORLOS, CORLUS; CAROLIUS, CAROLUS; COERLES. The "S" can be two S's. CARLEY & CARLY are probably in there too because CARLY & CARLEY show up in roughly the same counties in Ireland as CARLISS, CARLOS, CORLISS, etc.

On webpage http://www.angelfire.com/fl/ClanMacKenzieL/septs.html, it hints that:

Macarly, MacCARLEY, MacCARLIE, MacCARLY, MacKARLICH, Makarley, MacKARLIE, MacKARLY and MacKERLICH

were/are a sept of MacKenzie in Scotland. Does anyone have info on the above-mentioned surnames being a sept of McKenzie in IRELAND? My CARLOS' originated in Ireland, County Galway specifically (but neighboring County Roscommon has higher density of CARLOS') before emigrating to the US in the 19th-century. Does anyone have info on this?

Second, I'd like to know where I can read some history on "surname McKenzie in Ireland." For example, what counties were/are they most numerous? I have searched the Internet, but cannot find much at all on McKenzie's in Ireland. There's lots on MacKenzie's in Scotland, but my ancestors are not from Scotland. Clue me in, please.

Thanks.

May all beings awaken & be free,
