If you suspect that your Gilbert's parents were born in CT then you would probably be talking about John and Sarah Sherwood Carley who were in the Fairfield area (Wilton and Fairfield) from 1731 - 1760 when they resettled in the Oblong in Dutchess Co., NY. Of their sons, I can only guess that their son John Carlee remained or returned to CT, or a son of their son Abraham who died in CT prior to 1759 when Abraham's widow Susannah, last name unknown, remarried that year, a cousin of Abraham's - Thaddeus Gray, in Westport. Of that John Carlee's children, a daughter Nancy married a Levi Davis in the late 1790s in Westport. No one seems to know whether there might have been children of Abraham and Susannah ? Carley - Gray although there were 3 children born to an Abraham and Susannah in Fairfield in the 1740s but they seem to be attributed to Abraham and Susannah Brookins Carley who lived in HilIsdale, Columbia, NY. It might be a long shot, but Susannah Unknown Carley Gray may have been a Susannah Gilbert. Or John Carlee's wife may have been Gilbert - if anyone has that information please let us know.
