I recently arranged for the College of Heralds in England to make a search of their records to see what they said about my emigrant namesake Edward Carleton (1610-1678) of Rowley. I had found the discussion about the Surrey arms (From NEHGR, vol. 93, pages 3-5) a few years ago, though I couldn't find that anyone had publically released any information about the College of Heralds being contacted directly about Edward Carleton. I used what I think is the generally accepted ancestory of Edward Carleton decending from a Yorkshire Carleton family. The ancestory I sent to the College was: http://home.hakuhale.net/rbc/carleton.html The results of the search for arms was negative, but did provide information about other Carleton families that the College has records for. I've scanned the text of the report for those who are interested: http://home.hakuhale.net/rbc/CHReport.pdf The College holds a copy of "Memorials of the Carletons" , published posthumously in 1869 by Capt. Percival Augustus Carleton Let me know if there are any questions. Best regards, --Bruce Notify Administrator about this message?
