Dear Liza

It IS very nice to hear about other CARLESSes searching for their roots.

I'm afraid my quest has been a bit 'stop/start', mainly because I could not find any references to my great grandparents George CARLESS and Sarah SCOTT. Both were born in Wolverhampton, George in 1838 and Sarah in 1839. I have not been able to find any details of when or where they were married, but they were living in Stockton on Tees in 1881 according to the census of that year. At that time their family comprised:

George (Jnr) b.1862 Wolverhampton
Sarah A b.1865 Wolverhampton
Jane b.1866 Wolverhampton
Elizabeth b.1871 Wolverhampton
John b.1873 West Hartlepool (my grandfather).

Grandfather John married twice. His second wife was Amelia Moor(e), I have no details of his first wife.

I should be very grateful if you could let me know if any of your searches around Birmingham area have thrown up any references to any of the above characters. I would be willing to share my limited knowledge of the CARLESS clan with you or anyone else who may be interested.

Best wishes
Norman Carless (ex West Hartlepool born and bred)
