Hi Shirley, I just now noticed that you had answered my post.I believe John Carlin in Buncombe to be the brother of Thomas and Daniel Carlin of Patrick Co VA.I have seen many mistakes on tombstones, and many were erected long after the deceased had died, sometimes in the 1900's.If this tombstone was inscribed in the late 1800's to 1900's, then whoever erected it may have had his info. all mixed up. To my knowledge Thomas and Daniel Carlin arrived ca. 1772-1774 to the Henry Co VA area. Daniel Carlin had several brothers, sisters and sons from his previous marriage join him as late as 1793. I find it really weird that a John Carlan witnessed my gggggrandfathers land deed in Surry Co NC ca. 1793, and then shows up as our next door neighbor in Greenville Co SC, and then to top that off shows up in the Buncombe Co area.Edward Stewart, son of my Nathaniel Stewart, married Sarah israel daughter if Johnson Israel. Then I have a daughter of Edward Stewart born 1754 , brother of Nathaniel Stewart, who married Joshua Jones JR. The Jones and Eppersons were from VA and moved to Wilkes Co NC, right next to Surry Co. See Wilkes Co NC census for 1784-1787, you will find Thomas Epperson, who was allied to Joshua Jones Sr.Teresa Stuart de Rios
