I heretofore given to my son HUGH A CARITHERS One horse saddle and bridle at $80.00, one bedstead furniture, one cow and calf $10.....and one negro woman named Harriet and future....................." Hugh A Carithers was born July 14 1827 d. May 16 1903 married Mary Ann Griffith. Hugh A Carithers of Walton Co Ga...farmer-merchant b. 14 July 1827 Madison co Ga; s/o WILLIAM C AND MARY GRIFFITH CARITHERS (dau: Robert/Sarah Brawner) He enlisted in state militia; built a large grist milla nd a cotton gin powered by the Appalachjee River. He served as a JP and a state Representative. He married Mary A Griffith do James L & Asyneth Eberhart Griffith..they had 3 ch to survive: James, Robert and HUGH A CARITHERS JR....Georgia Genealogical Gleanings by Emma Barrett Reeves. Hugh A is indeed a Dr. In Jacksonville and his son is indeed a judge...I have been in touch with them in the past.they did not have much to add to what I already have. Now comes some confusion. Their son James Yancy Carithers was not our James Yancy Carithers...he obviously was named after his uncle. I believe he also might have been a Dr..I would have to really dig around for all that info... Notify Administrator about this message?
