Any chance your James Carey also had a son Hugh? I am trying to trace my family back from Scotland to Ireland. What I know is that my grandfather Hugh Carey was born in Kilwinning, Scotland in the 1870s. His father, Hugh Carey was also born in Scotland, but his grandfather, James Carey, was born in Ireland. The family lived in Glasgow at times. Kilwinning is near Ardrossan, along the rail line to Glasgow. Working back, I think that they must have come to Scotland around 1840. James Carey was married to a Jane Pattison.
