Richard Carey was my Great, greeat, great Grandfather. I was told that our branch of the Carey family was from Donegal. I found the Radius passenger list from 1811, leaving from Cork to the US. The story passed down, was that he was a revolutionist, and had to leave Ireland in a hurry. The "urban legend" part of the story was that he jumped into a rowboat (while being shot at) to get to another boat (possibly the Radius) to escape and come to America. Possibly because of all that, it has been hard for me to find any information on him, before he left Ireland. The earliest records in Donegal date to 1808, but I can't seem to access them. Would love to find where he actually came from, Cork, or Donegal, etc... Especially since I am heading to Ireland in less than two weeks.
