PLANZ, Joseph William, 87, of Tampa , died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, May 11, 2008. He was a member of Incarnation Roman Catholic Church. "Pa" was born in Astoria, N.Y. , August 12, 1920. After graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, he served in the North Atlantic during World War II. He started and ran his own aircraft interior service business for 23 years at Kennedy International Airport in New York City before retiring in 1968. He became a seasonal resident of the area in 1976. He was a member of Lions Clubs International, Kings Point Alumni Association and Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Dolores of Tampa; children, Peggy Martin and husband, Don, of Dade City, Fla., Mary Ellen Russell of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Joanne Planz of New Port Richey, Fla., and Joseph Planz Jr. and wife, Liz, of Tampa; stepson, Joseph Syers of Tampa; and sister-in-law, Adrienne Planz of Huntington, N.Y. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew. Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at Incarnation Roman Catholic Church on Hillsborough Avenue in Town 'N Country. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to "USMMA Alumni Foundation/-Field House Special Project" in care of the Babson Center, 300 Steamboat Road, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY 11024.
