We have extended our family research with new DNA results for descendants of Richard M. Cardwell (m. Salley Crowder Cardwell) , Son of Peter Cardwell & Margaret Joyce Cardwell, Grandson of Richard Cardwell and Susannah LeGrand) Cardwell line.
*Researchers note family names: Cardwell, Sharp, Waller, Henry and Harris.
*Researchers note: Susannah Cardwell, dau. of Richard Perrin Cardwell (1751 - 1790) Rockingham Co., NC
*Researchers note DNA results: James Waller 1808 GA, John Harris 1865 NC, Wm Howard Henry 1895.
*Researchers note DNA results: Gabriel Cardwell 1803, Noah Cardwell 1796, Andrew Jackson Sharp 1835, Josiah Sharp 1761, and John Sharp 1720.
New Y-DNA results for a direct line male descendant of Richard I. Cardwell 1851, considered to be the first son of Caroline Matilda Cardwell 1834 Grainger County, TN, shows a 31/32 point match to test #C-31 in the CARDWELL DNA Project, whose earliest known ancestor is Gabriel Cardwell, son of Susannah Cardwell 1783 – 1852. Furthermore, the test shows a 32/32 point match to three test IDs in the SHARP DNA Project (Group 2). The earliest known ancestors are John Sharp 1720-1778; Andrew Jackson Sharp 1835-1855; and Josiah Sharp 1761-1838.
New Y-DNA results for a direct line male descendant of William Henderson Cardwell 1856, son of Caroline Matilda Cardwell show a 39/41 point match to a descendant of James Waller 1808 GA, a 35/37 point match to a descendant of John Harris 1865 NC, and a 32/34 point match to a descendant of Wm Howard Henry 1895. Further investigation is in progress.
Paternal line DNA testing was done through Ancestry.com. Test results were compared to Ancestry, SMGF and Family Tree databases. Y-DNA marker values for the above two descendants of Matilda Cardwell can be found on Family Tree’s Ysearch website with ID numbers DTQ9W and KYZAD.
