I am looking for information on my paternal grandfather, Francisco Cardoza. He immigrated from the Azores (possibly Faial) in the late 1800's, settling in California (Oakland area?) Married Rosa (don't have a maiden name). In some old documents that I have, Francisco's name sometimes appears as "Francisco Cardoza Silveira" and other times, as "Francisco Silveira Cardoza", although I'm not sure why. He had at least one son, Frank Peter Cardoza (my grandfather), who died at age 39. Any "clues" as to the origins (i.e., island) of my ancestors would be greatly appreciated. I've done a lot of searching and have come up with very, very little.
