Shackleford & Harriet Cardin, MS, 1856

Shackleford and Harriet O. Cordin/Cardin were married in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi around 1855. Harriet's previous husband, James H. Spencer of Oktibbeha, died between 1853-1856, and Harriet and Shackleford were granted custody of Harriet's Spencer children (minors) in October 1856. However, due to their having problems securing and maintaining bonds, guardianship of the children was transferred to W.F. Yeager in April 1860. The children were listed with Yeager on the 1860 census for Oktibbeha County.

Does anyone have any information on Shackleford and Harriet Cordin/Cardin? I am curious as to what happened to them and why they lost their children. Any help will be appreciated!

The probate records regarding this transfer of guardianship are posted on the Oktibbeha County Wills Board at this address: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/OktibbehaWill?read=9
