I got the information that Margaret Pamphilion married Christopher Cardiff from Bernice Leonard's Tavern in the Town, pp. 180 & 182. She wrote, "In 1760 Edward Pamphillion purchased of his brother Thomas; his sisters Judith, wife of Richard G. Robinson; Margaret, wife of Christopher Cardiff; Mary, wife of Alexander Domohoy; and Jane Pamphillion, their rights to a parcel of land on Chester River, formerly the property of their father. (QA RT F:99). The land, called "Spryley," had been ordered by Thomas Pamphillion (-1739) to be sold and one-half the proceeds to be divided between Edward (at 21) and his sisters (at age 16)."
Margaret's father, Thomas Pamphilion, immigrated to MD c. 1714 and died in 1739. He was a shipwright and innkeeper. His wife was Margaret Bennett, daughter of Thomas Bennett and probably his wife, Judith. I believe Thomas had been married before, so I'm not positive Margaret was Judith's. Judith and Thomas Bennett are my ancestors via their daughter Judith Bennett Valliant. John Valliant, her husband, was the executor of Thomas Pamphilion's will. While in London last summer, I noticed several Pamphilions around the Valliants, and I suspect that the two families may have been associated back in England. They both appear to be Huguenots.
Margaret's brother Nicholas was a shipwright, brother Edward was a tavernkeeper and cordwainer, and brother Thomas was a carpenter. Margaret married Henry Colston before she married Christopher Cardiff (also from Bernice Leonard's book). I think I told you wrong about her first husband in my message to you directly to your e-mail address.
Do you have any dates on Margaret? I would be very happy to know her children's names. Connee Kroeger
