I am researching the life of Mr Cornelius Ambrose Cardew , born in Australia in 1897 and died in 1973. His father was John Haydon Cardew, I believe born in the UK and whose father was also John Haydon Cardew, rector at one time of St Mary's Wingfield, Wiltshire.
CA Cardew was a Railway Engineer who rose to the position of Assistant Chief Mechanical Engineer of the New South Wales Railways. He never married, neither did his sister Gertrude Marion Cardew, so this branch of the family finished when they died.
I have seen a reference to another John Haydon Cardew form the late 1700s so I gather that it may have been another relative.
I understand that at least one Cardew ended up on an Indian Railway during the first half of the 20 century.
I have some more detailed info for anyone who is trying to research these people from another branch.
