My middle name is Cardew and back through several generation, various descendants have been given the middle name of Cardew. The earliest I know is Lily Cardew Wood, born 1880, youngest daughter of my granfather, Edward Wood, It is possible his mother may have been a Cardew. My interest is that my father several times mentioned a Colonel Cardew but at the time I took little interest. My grandfather was born at St. Lukes Middlesex about 1851. I wonder if there is any connection.
On another matter a cordwainer is a shoemaker who specialises in hand made quality shoes.
