I posted the initial message and was interested to learn of an additional Carden family from Virginia. My research indicates my aancestors were from the Raonoke Virginia area as noted during the 1880 census. I have been in touch with additional black Carden families originating in the Virginia area. One such family is currently residing in East Orangen NJ. The son is an TV anchor with NBC news in Philidelphia. His name is Chris Carden.
