William supposedly left for the war after fathering several children and was never heard from again. He was a private in the 3rd Tenn. Reg. enlisting 21 Apr 1862. Prior to that he was a farmer. He was 5'11", dark complexion, dark eyes and black hair. He was a POW on July 4th, 1863 and was paroled at Vicksburg on July 10th, 1863. After that, Caroline was suppose to have raised her children
under the name of Carden.
The children later moved to Idaho and Montana.
Caroline died in Telico Plaines in 1889.
