Campbell Sutton may be a son of an older Thomas Sutton of Orange County NC -- who I believe was a Revolutionary War soldier -- someone with access to the DAR library could possibly check on this. The census records of 1790 suggest this possible connection to Thomas Sutton.James Sutton was bondsman or witness (I don't know which) to Campbell Sutton's marriage.
There are a number of marriage records of Orange County NC that mention other Cardens in connection with Campbell Sutton, implying a relationship with his wife Fannie Carden. For example, Campbell Sutton witnessed the marriage of John Carden and Patsy Carden January 6, 1800.Campbell was bondsman for Jones Carden marriage to Mary Crowder March 17, 1805 -- I think "Jones" here is probably a variant spelling of "Jonas", not Jones as in "Tom Jones".Seems to me that there was an older John Carden who could have been the father of Fannie, John, and "Jones" -- but I am relying on memory for that, since I don't have my census notes handy.
My father-in-law was a descendant of Campbell and Fannie through their daughter Margaret (Peggy) Sutton who married Isham Nichols, residents of Grayson County KY in the mid-1800's.
