Hi Bobbie! Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back with you, but I've been on vacation. Now for Amos S.P. Cardin. I sent all my information to Ancestry.com and they sent me a reply (from the Board of Ancestry.Com Committee) and they told me the Amos Cardin that I was looking for was Amos S.P. Cardin. He was born 1832 in Tennessee. He married Margaret N. Taylor. I am working on this and so far everything matches with my family. As for the "S.P.", I haven't a clue. While I was home on vacation, I asked about this. Half the women in the kitchen got quiet and dropped their heads and the other half busted out laughing. But not a one told me what the S.P. stood for. All I heard was, 'Sugar, the Cardins were famous for changeing their names to suit the need'. It seems that in my line of Cardins..when they were good..they were GREAT.. but when they were bad..they were BAD. Henceforth, the name changes came. Now in the family Bibles you will find the real names and in alot of cases, as the Cardin men got older and less wild, they went back to their original names. That is what makes them so hard to trace. (In my family). My line of Cardins are also very superstitious people as well as extremely tight lipped. So it's hard to get anything from them. lol..God bless their souls. Anyway, if you are interested in the Amos S.P. Cardin line, I can send you the information I find. If not, I wish you the best of luck with your Cardin/Carden research. Oh, my grandfather's father went by several different names. I couldn't find any records on him. This is because he lied about his name when he met and married my grandfather's mother. Only when, by the grace of God, I ran across a cousin who knew who had the family Bible. That's when I learned his real name. Then it all started falling in place. Now I'm ending this novel..LOL.. Hope I have helped more than confused you!
