Hi, June; I now have more info about Matt Capps and his children. His third wife, Sarah Ann (Sally) Hill, was the sister of my husband's grandfather, who married Matt's eldest daughter. Matt and Sally had:

Georgia (named for one of Sally's sisters), born about 1879, married William D. Stiles.

John Franklin Capps, born 15 Feb. 1881, married Frances Ella Herring.

Adolphus, born 13 Oct. 1882, died 8 March 1883; named after the middle name of one of Sally's brothers.

Cora Lee, born June 1885, married A. Z. Keller.

Hattie Barnes, born May 1887, named after one of Sally's half-aunts who married a man named Barnes; Hattie B. Capps married L. E. Greer.

Isam Samuel Capps, born 1 March 1889, named probably after Sally's youngest brother Isham Hill. Isam married (1) Sarah Waggoner in Arkansas, got a divorce by around 1920, returned to Upshur County TX and married (2) Florence E. Cooper.

I don't know which of the above was nicknamed "Buck" Capps.

Matt C. Capps was the oldest son of Henry Capps who was born about 1810 and Rebecca Duckworth who was born about 1815 in Georgia. I have Henry in at least 2 censuses and his birth state is different in each. He might have been born in Tennessee. From other info that has been posted, it looks like he had a brother who married Rebecca Duckworth's sister, Thirzy or Thursday Duckworth. I have not had a chance yet to follow up on this important clue.

I'm pretty sure it is the 1850 census where Henry Capps and Rebecca Duckworth are found in Yalobusha Co., Mississippi and in the 1860 census are found in Arkansas. Matt C. Capps moved from Ark. to Upshur Co. TX in 1869 according to his testimony in his application for a TX State Confederate pension, which I got a copy of from the TX State Archives.

Hope this helps.
