Thanks for the great info Patricia! Yes it did help! My gg grandfather was listed there: John Cary Caplinger (b. Mar 1855), who in 1876 married Rebecca Agnes Murphy (b. Oct 1856). I *just* recently found them on the 1880 and 1900 Highland County census records along with their children: Martha R (b. 1877), Mary E.A. (b. 1875), John Wesley (b. Jun 1880), Eva J. (b. Oct 1882), William (b. Mar. 1885), and Cecil (b. Feb. 1889).

Would you, or anyone else out there, happen to know who John Cary Caplinger's parents were? Since I am a descendent of Dr. John Caplinger (grandma sez so!) I think I've narrowed it down to the following children of Dr. John Caplinger: Daniel, Joel, Andrew, or Cornelius. Thanks to everyone for their help!
