I've been looking at the census records for Rebecca Murphy & noticed something interesting...
I think your Rebecca is listed in the 1870 census, Highland Co., Brush Creek in the houshold of ...
Bell, George, age 90, farmer, of VA
" Mary, age 65, keepling hse, of Delaware
" William S., age 25, farmer, of OH
Murphy, Rebecca, age 13, at home, of OH
Jones, Margaret, age 9
The interesting thing is that when you look at the 1880 census, Highland Co., Brush Creek, William S. Bell is listed directly above John C. & Rebecca Caplinger.
Perhaps there is a connection to the Bell family?
I traced this George Bell back to 1820, still in Brush Creek. The Countryman & Shoemaker families are also listed in 1820 & in later Brush Creek census records. By the time you get to the 1900 census, you will notice John C. & Rebecca Caplinger are listed right under William Countryman & John Stults/Stultz 78, is living with Countryman. I mentioned this because, as you may know, the Caplinger family married into the Countryman, Shoemaker & Stults/z families (in VA & OH). I'm sure there must be a clue in there "somewhere" that you can use.
If I run into anything else that might help you, I'll let you know. And if you find the answer to this mystery, please let me know... I'm very curious now!
