Do you have dates and location for your Sam? Our gr.gr. grandfather was Samuel Caples. We think he started out in Maryland, moved to Alabama, then on to Newton County, AL. He had two families, and we think our gr. grandfather, James Burton ("Burt") Caples, was from the second family. "Burt" was born in Newton County about 1950. We have almost nothing on "old Sam" but are still searching. We think old Sam had a brother named Littleton, but not proven yet. Frank and James are unknown to us. The Caples' surely used a lot of the same names, in that old Sam named our gr.grandfather James, then James named our grandfather Samuel also. Then to further confound, our grandfather Sam named one of our uncles James.
The name Littleton shows up in several generations. Wish they could have been a little more creative with the names, dont' you? It would have made it easier on us now. The Caples is a big, big clan, and I suspect we are all related if we can get back far enough.
I probably haven't helped you in your search, but wish I could have. If you will let us know about your Sam's location and dates, maybe we can find a connection. If in your search, you run across anything on James Burton Caples, please keep my address and let me know.
Happy hunting to us both.
