Mc in front of names is common in both Scotland and Ireland. One big difference is that in Ireland it was M'Capes for son of and McCapes for grandson of. If I'm wrong someone please fix my statement 'cause sometimes it confuses me. I believe that the name Capes has been really mistreated by people. In researching my Capes (please see my note of 12/28/99) I can't find very much info, but I find a ton of Capers. In closing, I would not be surprised if they came from both places. George.
