McCapes/Capes surname, Southern England?

I have a the family surname of McCAPES. I understand that Mc means "son of" in Scotland. So the possibility is there that my McCapes were originally named Capes. Anyone hear of this name in reference to the Capes surname? I also heard that there was a possibility that the Capes family originated from Southern England.
