John A. Canty ? 1838 Texas land grant

While searching for Texas land grants at the Texas General Land Office, I found a grant in the name of John A. Canty. It stated he had been a resident of Texas since 1831 and had been awarded 1/3 of a league of land, as a single man. Although land was surveyed for him in Hill County in 1838, he never received title to his land.

I have found no other record for John A. Canty in early Texas, so I assume he died or returned to his home in another state before he could settle his land.

I am interested in learning more about this man and if he may be related to my gg grandfather, Frank or Alexander Canty who apparently moved from Mississippi to Louisiana to McLennan Cty, Texas during the late 1850s-1861 where he is said to have died.
