The Canty Family goes back to the 1700's in the state of S.C., when Tiege Canty (Cantey) came with his family from Virginia. They were large land and slave holders. They surveyed many of the lands in SC. I am away from my Canty file, which is in another state, however, I can tell you that Jared is in this same line. The Canty's, the Manning's and the Richardson's are related through marriage. The Ricardson's and the Mannings were the governors of SC. Five in one family held this distinction. I will be returning to my files on 4/14/99, at which time I will be able to give you details. The last known plantation owned by the family was called Canty Place. I have a copy of an Equity Bill, several wills and an article on a cemetery dedication by descendants of Tiege Canty. The Canty Cemetery. Will repost.
