Cantu's of General Bravo & China, NL

Hello,

It seems like there are several of us looking for Cantu families from General Bravo & China in Nuevo Leon. I ran across this information a while ago and thought I would share.

The reason there seem to be a lot of Cantu's from the towns is that they were both founded by Cantu's.

This came from a Mexican website that describes every town in Nuevo Leon. The page is at the address:

http://www.mundoregio.com/nuevoleon/municipios/

Here are some excerpts:
General Bravo

I don't speak good Spanish, but I did pick up that the town was founded in 1790 by Juan Christobal Cantú.

China

It looks like China was founded by Don Carlos Cantú. No wonder there are so many Cantu's there.

I myself am looking for Matilde Cantu, possibly the daughter of a Francisco (Navarro?) Cantu & Marianna Contrerras (Cantu?). Not sure of the parents names. She was born in China.

Her husband was Esteban Valdez, also of China. Their daughter Estefana Valdez married Martin Valenzuela, who was from General Bravo. (He MIGHT have been the son of Eduardo Valenzuela & _______ Leal. Not sure)

I threw in these names just in case somebody ran across them. I really just wanted to contribute what I knew of the towns.

John
