Elizabeth: I am your distant cousin, Gaspar and Mama Lula were my great grandparents. My mother is Mary Gutierrez Padilla of Del Rio, Texas. Her mother was Isabel Cantu Gutierrez of Ocampo, Coahuila, Mexico. Isabel's parents are Gaspar and Julia. You must be related to Bertha Cantu Minjares of San Jose, California. We have many cousins in the San Jose, California area. Gaspar was born in La Madrid (also known as Rancho Nuevo) Coahuila, Mexico. It is a small village between Cuatrocienegas, and San Buenaventura, Coahuila, Mexico. Julia was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. Their story is a very interesting one and I have been doing extensive research on their histories. Gaspar was a Sargeant in 1910 when the Mexican Revolution started and by 1920, he was Brigadier General of the Army stationed in Puebla, Mexico. Please e-mail me at loy_y_linda@msn.com and I will be glad to share what I have on this interesting family history.
