I want to clarify something. The origin of the Cantu is form Italy, where the lastname was Cantuti or Cantucci. Then we find it in Spain and at the middle of 17th century (1600's) We have 3 brothers coming to Nuevo Leon. Lorenzo, Giuseppe and I miss the third one. However they established in Monterrey area, except Lorenzo, He was a preacher and was in Matehuala, SLP. The other two brothers stayed in Nuevo Leon and had a lot of descendency. Part of these, was moved to Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Texas and Nuevo Mexico, and then to other states and regions of Mexico and USA. So basically I want to point out that almst all Cantus in America are descendents of these brothers established in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. So we can consider that Nuevo Leon is the origin of this lastname as well as Garza, Treviņo, Arrambide, Cavazos, Montemayor, etc.
