Cantrell Family Genealogy Forum

Thank you for your response. The reason this is of importance is that during our research my cousin and I have found many discrepancies. We are continuing to search for the elusive father of John E. Cantrell, listed on census as nephew of Aaron G. Cantrell, son of John and Rebecca Thorne Cantrell. Civil War records have led us to believe there are many mistakes in the information we have. Three brothers, Martin, Aaron and Doctor William joined the 44th Regiment MS on the same day and all records indicate that it was Martin who died in action on 9-14-62. Bible records indicate that it was Bery or B.Z. who died at approximately this time, but service records indicate B.Z., who was in the Cavalry was alive and still in service in 1864. We also have records indicating that a "Martin" signed the marriage bond between Aaron G. Cantrell and E.C. Lanham on 2-2-1867. This could not be the same Martin who died in 1862. Therefore, I would like to try to determine if we are looking at two different Martin's (Martin Thorne and Martin Turner) and their relationship to this family or if in fact these people are one in the same. We have been working on this for years and the harder we search the more we seem to go back to the very beginning.
