Cantrell Family Genealogy Forum

Hi, I am looking for any information on the early life background of Georgia Annah Cantrell who married George Wilborn (later Welborn) in Rabun County, GA on 18 April 1877....our family oral history has Georgia Annah Cantrell as a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. The marriage license referenced has her name spelled Georgi Annah Cantrel. George and Georgia Wilborn had the following children: Albert Bascom, John Halston, Robert, Thomas Clemson, and Ada Welborn. Georgia Annah Wilborn died in 1902 and is buried in an unmarked grave at the Blue Heights Baptist Church in Clayton GA. Family oral history also records that she was Baptist, a midwife, and a woman of much prayer. Of course I would love to prove the Cherokee Indian ancestry definitively but probably never will. There were many Cherokee living in the NE corner of Georgia State, and many of the women intermarried with locals. By the way, later Federal Census records say she was born in GA but conflict mathematically on the date of birth from 1854 to 1861. Also...census records say that Georgia A. Wilborn was illiterate and that her parents were born in the State of Georgia.
