Fredia, Thanks for responding. I have seen some of Warren's material on this and it seems to me he was speculating based on proximity of the Cantrell and Redman families during one of the censuses. Some of the problems with this is that while Angeline was apparently born in 1807, Benjamin and Lucy were married on 24 Nov 1808 according to the Stokes County record. She could have been born before they were married, but there is no one that matches her in the early census. While Moses and Angeline were living near the Redmans in Warren County in 1830, he is also living next to his brothers-in-law James and John Young and that is a more obvious reason for him living where he was. More importantly, he had to have been married about 1825 and was definitely living in White County at the time. Jesse R. said he was born in White County. For that matter, at the time they were married there don't seem to be any Packs or Redmans living near the family there in White County. Regarding Jonathan Rufus, he and Jesse R. fought in the same Union unit. I think Jesse R. joined the Federals because Jonathan's older brother was executed, shot in the forehead, by Confederate guerillas after he was captured at a battle in White County. Jonathan Rufus later joined Jesse R. in that unit. Notify Administrator about this message?
