John Benjamin Canterbury / Matilda Jane Berry
Hi -
I have a death certificate for John Benjamin Canterbury (sometimes known as John B. or J.B.) who married Matilda Jane Berry in which it is written that his father was John Canterbury and his mother's maiden name was Craft.
This information contradicts many sources in which it is assumed that he was the son of Samuel C. Canterbury and Ann.
The Crafts and Canterburys were from Alabama, so there is a connection before then went to Red River, Texas.
There is a John Canterbury and Sarah E. Craft (born in 1830 in Lawrence, Alabama to Stephen Craft and Elizabeth) who married in 15 November 1849 in Lawrence County, Alabama. This would be a couple of weeks before John B. was born on 29 November 1849 in Lawrence County, Alabama.
I saw a transcript of a portion of the Canterbury story from Red River Recollections here but would love a copy of the 3-4 pages in total to read through it and see if there is more information: http://boards.ancestrylibrary.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.redriver/1784.1/mb.ashxhttp://boards.ancestrylibrary.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.redriver/1784.1/mb.ashx
If it was a mistake on the death certificate as to the parents, then what parent couple was the death informant thinking of?
If anyone could clear this up for me, I would appreciate it.
