John Canterbury, David Lindsey, Skillman connection
I am a GG-Grandson of Elijah Skillman and Martha (Canterbury??). Elijah is the grandson of Christopher Skillman, born 1732 from New Jersey, Christopher came down into Louden Co. VA, with his son Isaac, born 1764. It is there I feel he meet up with the Canterbury's and Lindsey's. These three families came on down into Shelby Co. AL and settled on land given to the for fighting in the Revolutionary War. David Lindsy and Mary Mary Casey had a daughter Lydia Lindsey, she married John Canterbury. I can find no record of John and Lydia Canterbury's children. We feel the wife of Elijah Skillman, Martha was one of their daughters--because everywhere we find Martha and Elijah we find Lydia Canterbury, and Elijah and Martha named their youngest daughter Lydia, probably after her mother. Also Elijah's brother David Skillman married a Rebecca Canterbury, and David and Rebecca named their first son John Canterbury Skillman, most likely named after her father John Canterbury. Also the Mary Polly Skillman that married John "Jack" Lindsey, (son of David Lindsey) was a sister to Elijah and David. Elijah and Martha, and David and Rebecca, and Lydia Canterbury and some more Canterbury's, Lindsey's, and Skillman's went on to settle in Tishomingo Mississippi, and the some on in to Etowah Co. Alabama. Elijah and Martha had a son Isaac T. Skillman born about 1842 in Tishomingo MS. This Isaac married a Sarah Boyd in 1868 in Baine(now Etowah Co. AL)
Any info or help on these families will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Danny J. Skillman,my e-mail [email protected]
