Canterbury/Canterberry KY, WVA, OH
I descend from this Line. , I have worked only sporadically on this family line research. For those who may be interested in this Canterbury/Lowe/Arnot/Truesdale Line, this is a basic outline for my Beatty/Strickler family:
Henry Arnot Jr. and Elizabeth Truesdale had a daughter:
Almedia Arnot(t) m. Levi Canterbury ca. 1816 the son of Canterbury/Lowe. Their dau. Ruth Canterbury b. ca. 1837 +-, md. Allen Levisay b. ca. 1832 Nicholas Cty. VA (now WVA).
One of their twin daughters (Addie and Effie Levisay) b. 1862 - Addie Levisay md. George Carson Beatty.
Their son Charles Allen Beatty b. 1889 Huntington, Cable( Cabell?) Co, WV md. Helen Samantha Reese-Tucker.
Helen was b. 1896 the dau. of Millie Elizabeth Jane Fogle b. 1876. Millie md. an Albert Tucker in Ohio several years after my grandma was born. Millie was the dau. of Columbus Fogle b. ca. 1850 who md. ca. 1870 Cymantha LaTart (Laytart) in or around Pendleton KY..
My mother was the second of 13 children born to Charles Allen and Helen Beatty. Her name was Bertha Lauretta Beatty b. 1916 d. 1973 md. Kenneth Daniel Strickler b. 1914 d. 1971.
Kenny and Lauretta Strickler produced 6 children: Dan, Allen, Jerry, Fred, Ruth and Mary. There are many descendents in our little family alone. The Beatty family from Charles Allen & Helen has produced multiple descendants.
This is information held in my Beatty Family records for quite a few years. We have no proof of Ruth Canterbury's birth. Although, we do know she was born just about the time Almedia (who may have been called Alveeta by her family) and Levi Canterbury left KY and moved to Lawrence Co. and/or Gallia Co. Ohio.
Ruth Canterbury was born probably at Coal Grove, Ohio. After her husband, Allen Levisay, died in 1864 from wounds received during the Civil War, Ruth Canterbury Levisay applied for and subsequently received a samll pension from the military. She later married one Isaac Washburn and they had at least one child, Charles Washburn.
Eventually, Addie Levisay Beatty and family moved to Columbus, Franklin Co., OH; and Ruth Canterbury Levisay Washburn and her new family moved up to Cuyahoga County near Cleveland where she died.
