Hello! I have been very much interetsted in trying to find out my geneology. Because of my particular family history, people don't really like to talk about that. All I want to do is just figure out where I come from.
My father, Frederick William Cansler, who has not been a part of my life since I was a young child, never gave any insight to this history. My grandparents, Robert Cansler and Gwendolyn Stewart, met and married in Springfield, IL possibly sometime in the late 1930's/early 1940's. They now live in Tacoma, WA. I believe Frederick is in his 60's now and may be in Seattle, WA. He has 2 other siblings, Winifred Cansler who, last we heard, is in Florida, and Robert ("Bobby") Cansler who resides in Tacoma, WA.
I have an older half-brother, Fred DeBose (b.1967), from my father's first marriage. I have two older brothers from my father's marriage with my mother, Eric John Cansler (b.1971) and Matthew David Cansler (b.1975). I was born in 1977.
My understanding is that my grandfather, Robert Cansler, was well-known jazz musician in IL in the 1930's and 1940's, often travelling with orchesttras and bands of many great musicians of the 20th century like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. I also understand that after my grandparents had children, they sold everything in Springfield, IL to move to Richmond, CA to start a new life. Apparently life in Springfield was unsecure, unsafe and lots of bad family ties.
I grew-up with my 2 brothers, Eric and Matthew, in Oakland, CA. I have recently moved to Chicago, IL. Part of me hopes to find something here.
Does anyone know me?
