Hi. I may have some information that may, or may not, be relevant to your original story.
In the course of my research into my pedigree under the surname KENSDALE (also living in Essex, England), I have found different spemy surname which includes KENSDALL and CANSDALE amongst others.
My information comes from the 1880 United States Census in which there is a W. D. KENSDALL (shoemaker) born in England about 1845 and who married Catherine, born about 1849 in Canada. This may suggest that he emigrated to Canada. They then appeared to have emigrated from Canada to the USA where William KENSDALL (Tailor) was born about 1865 in New York and John KENSDALL was born about 1878 in New York. There may be other children. The Census place was at Rochester, Monroe, New York.
Is this a coincidence? or what!
