Do not know if there is a connection but I have a 3Xgrandmother named Mary CANON from VA who married a James SMITH. My Mary CANON was born 1817 in VA & married James SMITH in Greene County TN where they lived until 1854, at which time they moved to Missouri. I have been able to find absolutely nothing about her family. I have also researched the CANNON spelling of the name.
