Marynell

Noxubee and Winston counties are contiguos (sharing a border). Noxubee is onthe Alabama line across from Pickens Co. with Winston Co. due west. Marshall Co. is on the Tennessee line and is about 80 miles north of Noxubee and Winston counties.

Robert "Booma" Canon has a write up on his Canon family in a history of Panola Co., MS (his father was named Booma Sharpe Canon) in which he mentions an ancestor, Henry Canon moved to Montgomery Co. MS in 1861. Montgomery Co. is WNW of Winston Co. and if it were east of where it lies, it would share a border with Winston Co.

He died of his wounds in the Confederat hospital in Oxford, MS. His son William Canon was Bob's grandfater. I've know Bob for many years, but we've never explored and family relationship. I've been trying to reach him to explore that distinct possibility. "Booma" states that his ancestor was John Canon, born in Henrico Co., VA in 1675. My John Canon, Sr. ancestor was born in Scotland in 1736 and emigrated to PA where he married a Martha A. ?. We think that her name was Addison since their first child was named either William or James Addison Canon. On the LDS site, they haver her name as Martha Alexander, but John's brother James is said to married a Martha Alexander, possibly the dau of Theophillus Alexander.

There is a Canonsburg, PA which is named for Col. John Canon from VA. I suspect that he was John Anderson of Henrico Co., VA's grandson. He was a milleer according to the Canonsburg history and donated the land for the village. They have no idea where his house stood nor do they know where he is buried.

If you'll email me, I can send you a map of the MS counties with the year of their formation and I have Booma's article scanned so I can send it, too.
