Any idea where inMS that William was born? My Canon ancestors were in Marshall County, MS by about 1850. Marshall County is in NW MS on the TN line, about 70 miles south of Jackson, TN and about 50-60 miles ESE of Memphis. Holly Springs is the county seat. My gggrandfather Alfred O. Canon had a farm at Red Banks. His father, John Canon, Sr., brother Moses Harvey Moore Canon and sister Abigail Canon Alexander were all in Marshall County in 1850.

Alfred was a deacon and then an elder in the Presbyterian church, first in Oxford, then at Red Banks after they built a church there on his farm.

John Canon, Sr. was born in Scotland in 1736 and was in the Canonsburg, PA later. He migrated to Maryland and then to Mecklenburg County, NC prior to the Revolutionary War. (Canonsburg is named for Col. John Canon, probably John Sr.'s uncle).

Accordin the Mormon records, John Canon, Sr. married Martha Alexander, said to be either John McKnitt Alexanders; daughter or sister. However, I believe as doothers that he married Martha Addison since their first child was James Addison Canon.

I don't know if we're related, but it's very possible. Email me if you think that I can help.
